Qazipour:

MPs seeking to impeach economy minister

TEHRAN, Oct 10 (ICANA) – Twenty-five lawmakers have signed a motion to impeach Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Shamseddin Hosseini over the recent $2.6 billion financial fraud case, MP Nader Qazipour announced on Monday.

Speaking to the Mehr News Agency, Qazipour said that the motion will be submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board on October 11.

According to the Constitution, the minister should appear in the parliament to answer MPs’ questions within 10 days after the Presiding Board acknowledges the receipt of the motion.

So far, 25 MPs have signed the motion, and more than 10 lawmakers came to me today (Monday) and said that they want to sign the petition,” stated Qazipour, who is one of the MPs insistent on impeaching Hosseini.

According to Qazipour, the lawmakers who seek a removal of Hosseini have cited his failure to take the measures necessary to prevent the fraud case and his incompetence in the management of the country’s economic and banking affairs as the reasons for their motion to oust him.

In addition, 11 lawmakers had filed a complaint with the Majlis Article 90 Committee against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but later decided not to pursue the complaint after the Supreme Leader advised officials on October 3 to help pursue the case in an atmosphere of calm.
