Financial Difficulties, Root Cause of Crime Wave: MP
TEHRAN, July 20 (ICANA) – MP Kazem Jalali of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee says financial difficulties and unemployment are the root causes of the rise in street crime in Tehran.
“Economic difficulties and youth unemployment have exhausted people’s patience,” Jalali told the Mehr News Agency on Wednesday when asked about the cause of a sudden rise in street crime rate in the capital.
“People’s nerves are also frayed due to issues like air pollution and heavy traffic,” he added.
On Tuesday, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi announced that judicial, police, and intelligence officials have been called to attend a Majlis session to provide an explanation for the recent fatal street fights in the country, especially in Tehran.
The parliamentary committee intends to seriously pursue the incidents and take strong measures to prevent such things from happening again, Boroujerdi said.
